A Simple Christ-Centered Advent: One Name of Jesus a Day

Handmade wooden Names of Christ advent ornaments

If you make things, you know what December does to us.

There is always one more gift to finish. One more thing to sew, cut, glue or wrap. And somewhere in the middle of all that making, the reason for the season gets buried under the fabric scraps.

Anyone else?

I wanted an advent that was simple enough to actually do. No 25 little boxes to fill. No candy that is gone by the 10th.

Just one name of Jesus Christ and one scripture a day, from December 1st to Christmas.

How it works

Each day has one name of the Savior and one verse to go with it. You read the verse, say the name, and talk about it for a minute. That is the whole thing.

A few of my favorites:

  • Prince of Peace - Isaiah 9:6
  • Light of the World - John 8:12
  • Good Shepherd - John 10:11
  • Emmanuel - Matthew 1:23
  • Alpha and Omega - Revelation 1:8

Every name shows a different side of the same Savior. Some days I need the Shepherd. Some days I need the Prince of Peace. Most days in December I need both.

Make your own

This is a handmade blog, so of course you can make it yourself. All you need is 25 of something:

  • Paper tags cut from cardstock scraps, with a hole punched in the top
  • Wood slices or wood rounds and a paint pen
  • Fabric scraps sewn into little flags for a garland
  • Clothespins clipped to a piece of twine

Write a name and its scripture on each one and hang a new one every day. Kids can help, and it does not have to be pretty to work.

If you would like the list done for you, the 25 Names of Christ printable in my Heavenly Reminder Gifts shop has all 25 names with a scripture for each.

Or let me make it

If your making list is already too long (mine always is), I make these in my shop too.

The Christ Centered Advent Ornaments are a set of 25 wooden ornaments, 3 x 3 inches each, engraved with a name of Christ and its scripture reference. Hang one a day and by Christmas the tree is covered in who He is.

Wooden Names of Christ advent coins

The Faith Centered Advent Coins are the same idea in a 1 inch size, small enough for a little hand or a pocket.

If you miss a day

You will. I will too.

Do two the next day or skip it and keep going. It is not one more thing to be perfect at in December.

It is a few quiet minutes to remember who He is.

I hope you find them this year.
