Twin Size Ruffle Flower Rag Quilt in Hot Pink, Turquoise, Purple, and Lime Green

This last week I was able to make this gorgeous rag quilt for a customer. I am absolutely in love with it.

Pastel Triangle Rag Quilt in Pink, Green, Blue, Purple, Gray, and Yellow

I think my favorite part of sewing for others is custom orders.  They are so much fun!  To take someone else's vision and turn it into something they can touch and cherish forever is a real treat!

Today, I was able to do just that. I just shipped off this gorgeous twin size rag quilt made entirely of triangles.  The colors are so springy that it makes me wish winter hadn't just started!

New Ruffle Flower Rag Quilt in Turquoise and PInk in Multiple Sizes PLUS Pillow Shams

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Smartsilk. I received a free sample of the product for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.

I had a customer request a modification to one of my most popular quilt designs. She wanted a full size ruffle flower rag quilt with 2 pillow shams. I was beyond excited to make this set for her. It has been a quilt that I have been wanting to make into a larger version, but without having a customer wanting it, it never got done.

I am so glad that I finally was able to make one. I absolutely love how it turned out.

Don't mind that the quilt looks a little small on the bed.  I don't have a full size bed at my disposal so the next best thing was my daughters queen size bed.

I love how the pillows turned out!  They seriously are adorable.
Girl Pillow Shams in Turquoise, Hot Pink, and Lime Green
For the insert of the pillow sham I used a Smartsilk pillow.  I love how fluffy this pillow is.  It seriously reminds me of a down pillow. Plus, its divine to sleep on!

Annual Humanitarian Quilt

Every year our community gets together to make school bags, stuff childrens toys, donate quilts, and eat soup. It is a great time to serve others and to come together as a community and bond.
This year I was a little short on time so I did a quick fat quarter twin size quilt.
To make the quilt:
I cut 20 squares that are 18x18 inches wide. I wanted them to be square, but this would work just as well if you used fat quarters.

Then I sewed all the squares together.

My mother in law helped me tie the quilt

Then I used a full size flat sheet for the backing. Which made the binding really easy

I just folded over the sheet and sewed it down. I know that is not the "proper" way to do things, but it works just fine for me.

Happy Birthday Honey! Football Rag Quilt

All my husband wanted for his birthday was a football quilt.
He is a huge Brett Favre fan. Hence the #4 on both sides. This blanket is a nice representation of his football love. Torn between 2 teams, the former Favre team (Green Bay Packers) and the current Favre team (Minnesota Vikings)
I will say that he has yet to use it. He was however impressed. I think. The direct quote from him is "I knew you were making it. I am a great detective. Its not quite what I was thinking."

Yes, I was trying to surprise him. Yes, he kinda designed it. No, I am not great at hiding things,

I used the Addy Mae Pattern found HERE

Humanitarian Scrappy Quilt for the Needy

Our ward (its an Area of People organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) asked every family to bring a blanket for our Christmas party. Each blanket would be donated to the LDS church to send to people that need them. Humanitarian scrappy strip quilt twin size
They asked for colorful...thats what I gave them....
Humanitarian scrappy strip quilt twin size with sheet for backingMy intention was to make this full size, but I only had enough scraps for a twin size...
Humanitarian scrappy strip quilt twin sizeI ended up tying this quilt (I really, really, really wanted to quilt this blanket but just did not have time on my side)

Every single one of those pieces of fabrics came from a previous quilt that I had made.  They were all scraps that I hadn't used.  It was soooo nice to be able to use things that I already had in my scraps stash!

I used a twin size sheet for the backing so that I would not have to sew one together
Humanitarian scrappy strip quilt twin sizeTo bind it I folded the sheet over about a 3 inches and just sewed along the edge. I did not bother with turning the edge of the sheet over because they are already finished nicely on a sheet. The above picture is the corners that I did. I would sew down along the edge of the sheet all the way to the end of the blanket. Then I would move the blanket so that I could sew down the next edge...I folded the sheet that would be the binding, so that it was a triangle in the corner and then folded it over the blanket so that it looked like it was a miter corner. Even though I don't think technically it is (who knows). Then I pinned the corner down and just did the edge (I did not sew the corners down yet.

I did that all the way around the quilt and then went back and just sewed down the corners at the end

It is a good thing that I ended up not having enough scraps to do a full size; this blanket took up the entire living room as it was when I was tying it. I don't think I would have had enough room to tie a full size blanket. Thanks to my MIL she helped me finish tying this blanket..

Oh and all the yarn for tying was different colors. I used green, pink, and a multicolored (purple, yellow, and blue I think) yarns for this blanket.

These scraps all came from the rag quilts that I have been making over the last 6 months. This blanket is full of memories and I hope that the person who gets it loves it and keeps them warm...
