How to Raw Edge Applique Tutorial
Today I am going to show you how to raw applique:
First cut out your appliques. Make sure you use fabrics that will fray (like 100% cotton and flannels) other fabrics like minky will not fray but are still fun to use as an applique.
I have lots of appliques that I have uploaded for you to use for FREE HERE. Many of the appliques that I have come up with were pictures found online. Then I printed them off, cut them out and then cut out the fabric in the same shape. It works well. Just be careful not to pick designs that are too detailed because they will be hard to reproduce with a sewing machine.
Now sew around the edge of the fabric appliques using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. You want the edges of the fabric to fray.
Now pin on the next layer of your applique. Which in my case is the first set of circles. Sew around the edge of them with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
All of the above patterns are available on SALE for 25% off right now in my Etsy shop. Check it out today

So, yes they are leaving me....and I am feeling the loneliness already.

Step 1: Cut the fabric from the pattern
To create the rag quilt style, you will need to cut the fabric. You can use any fabric you like, but a flannel will give the pillow a cozy feel.
Step 2: Arrange the fabrics
Arrange your fabrics in a pattern that you like. You can mix and match different colors and patterns to create a unique look.
Step 3: Create the football applique
To create the football applique, draw a football shape on a piece of paper. Cut out the shape and trace onto brown fabric. Cut out the football shape from the fabric place on the backing fabric you have chosen for the pillow. Stitch around with an 1/4 inch seam allowance leaving a raw edge seam.
Step 4: Sew the fabrics together
Sew using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. We use fabrics from AVTRFabrics.com
Step 5: Clip the exposed seams
Once you have attached the football applique, clip the exposed seams with your favorite scissors the edges of the pillow to create a frayed look.
And there you have it - a cozy throw pillow with a football applique in a rag quilt style! This project is perfect for football fans and can be customized to any team's colors. Have fun creating your own unique pillow and show off your love for football.

Pencil and Notebook Case for Child Sewing
My daughter found my pencil and notebook case pattern that I wrote a couple years ago. She immediately wanted me to teach her how to make it.
You can purchase the download version HERE or the shipped version HERE
Instead I told her to read the pattern, and let me know where she wanted/needed help.
This is the finished product. I just purchased an embroidery machine and we embroidered her name on the front of it. She was able to sew all the appliqued flowers onto it, we even added a few more onto the back. She sewed most of it together. I only topstitched around the outside, and did the pencil spaces.
To say that she is in love is an understatement. Sorry for the blurry pictures, this was right before church, and the lighting in our house was pitiful...
