Quickest...Simplest Pumpkin Pillow Ever. From Scratch!

It is so dark and dreary here. It has been so bright and warm and cheerful here that I have almost forgotten that Winter is coming. But sadly, that was just a dream. Now the rain is here and I needed something bright to warm up my living room. So this is what I made to chase the blues away.

How to Raw Edge Applique Tutorial

I love to raw applique. It is quick and easy and BEAUTIFUL. It can change the look of a quilt so quickly. I also raw applique clothing, baby bibs, receiving blankets, and tons of other items. Here are a few examples:

Pink and Brown Car Seat Tent
Football Blanket

Today I am going to show you how to raw applique:

This is a childrens art case. The pattern can be found HERE. My daughter loves it, but can you imagine how boring it would look without those fun little flowers sewn onto it?

First cut out your appliques. Make sure you use fabrics that will fray (like 100% cotton and flannels) other fabrics like minky will not fray but are still fun to use as an applique.

I have lots of appliques that I have uploaded for you to use for FREE HERE. Many of the appliques that I have come up with were pictures found online. Then I printed them off, cut them out and then cut out the fabric in the same shape. It works well. Just be careful not to pick designs that are too detailed because they will be hard to reproduce with a sewing machine.
Now pin your appliques onto your fabric. The flower applique that I am doing today will require the fabric to be sewn on in layers. The first layer is the leaves.

Now sew around the edge of the fabric appliques using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. You want the edges of the fabric to fray.

Now pin on the next layer of your applique. Which in my case is the first set of circles. Sew around the edge of them with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Then repeat with the remainder of your layers. Each time pinning them in place and then sewing around them.
Now you have a beautiful piece of fabric with some awesome appliques. Embellish as desired (I did with the buttons)

Then make sure to wash your item to make your fabric fray. The more you wash it the more frayed it will be.

All of the above patterns are available on SALE for 25% off right now in my Etsy shop. Check it out today

Stag Baby Blanket Rag Quilt in Lime Green, Gray, and Blue by A Vision to Remember
I think I might be one of the only moms dreading my kiddos leaving me and going back to school for the year.

I know, I know....They aren't really leaving me cause they will be coming home from school every afternoon, but then again we have to wake up early the next morning and then they will leave me all over again.

So, yes they are leaving me....and I am feeling the loneliness already.

Sewing a throw pillow with an appliqued football can be a fun and creative way to show your love for football. In this blog post, we will explore a step-by-step tutorial on how to create a rag quilt style pillow with an appliqued football on it.

First, let's gather our supplies. You will need:

For more information on our favorite sewing products visit our post about 10 essential sewing tools for beginners

Step 1: Cut the fabric from the pattern

To create the rag quilt style, you will need to cut the fabric. You can use any fabric you like, but a flannel  will give the pillow a cozy feel.

Step 2: Arrange the fabrics

Arrange your fabrics in a pattern that you like. You can mix and match different colors and patterns to create a unique look.

Step 3: Create the football applique

To create the football applique, draw a football shape on a piece of paper. Cut out the shape and trace onto brown fabric. Cut out the football shape from the fabric place on the backing fabric you have chosen for the pillow. Stitch around with an 1/4 inch seam allowance leaving a raw edge seam.

Step 4: Sew the fabrics together

Sew using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. We use fabrics from AVTRFabrics.com

Step 5: Clip the exposed seams

Once you have attached the football applique, clip the exposed seams with your favorite scissors the edges of the pillow to create a frayed look.

And there you have it - a cozy throw pillow with a football applique in a rag quilt style! This project is perfect for football fans and can be customized to any team's colors. Have fun creating your own unique pillow and show off your love for football.

I Spy Baby Block Tutorial

This is my blog post that I shared with Oopesy Daisy Readers yesterday. I thought you all would enjoy seeing it.

This is a fun I Spy Baby Block that I whipped up in just a few minutes (ok maybe 1/2 hour)
You will need 6 square pieces of fabric. Mine are 5 inches. Also, if you are wanting to to add the appliques you can find them here.
I used 4 appliques.
Raw edge applique the animals onto the squares that you would like them on. Sew about 1/4 inch away from the edge of the applique.
Sew the squares together like in the picture above. Repeat with the 3 remaining squares.
Then sew the squares together as above
Now sew the 2 separate 3 square sections together. Notice that I sewed the sections together wrong. 2 of the animals ended up being upside down...
Sew them together all the way around so that you have a block. Make sure to leave a small hole to turn the block right side out.
Turn the block right side out

Now stuff the block with batting or really small fabric scraps
Sew the hole closed with a needle and thread. I hate doing this part, but remember that the smaller hole you leave open the less you have to sew back together :)
Now try and take pictures of your block...this is my failed attempt. The wind blew the block over the railing and my dear 4 year old saved it for me. Man I love that girl
Now you have a really fun I spy block.
Make sure to stop by and tell me hi

Pencil and Notebook Case for Child Sewing

I just adore this pattern of the Pencil and Notebook Case.  It was one of the first ones that I had ever written. It is the perfect pattern for a child to learn to sew with a little supervision.
pencil and notebook case that child sewed
My daughter found my pencil and notebook case pattern that I wrote a couple years ago.  She immediately wanted me to teach her how to make it.

Pencil and Notebook Case Pattern

You can purchase the download version HERE or the shipped version HERE

Instead I told her to read the pattern, and let me know where she wanted/needed help.
Inside of Pencil and Notebook Case Pattern
This is the finished product.  I just purchased an embroidery machine and we embroidered her name on the front of it.  She was able to sew all the appliqued flowers onto it, we even added a few more onto the back.  She sewed most of it together.  I only topstitched around the outside, and did the pencil spaces.

To say that she is in love is an understatement.  Sorry for the blurry pictures, this was right before church, and the lighting in our house was pitiful...
